WHAT ISPR GHOST EXPEDITION PARTICIPANTS
HAVE TO SAY…
I went to New Orleans for the
express purpose of participating in the ISPR Ghost Expedition,
and the chance to meet with an actual ISPR team member. I'm
so glad I went.
The location was really great
- definitely active! I've had my own psychic, empathic, and
paranormal experiences which happen at capricious times, but
wanted something not so random, something intense, something
I could actually hold in my hands, so to speak.
The cold spots were very significant
to me, not only because they were blatantly all over the place
(please note that there was no electricity in the building -
no fans, no air-conditioners), but also I've never used any
sort of field equipment that could actually "read" the temperature
change not a foot from where you stand! The L-Rods we used were
amazing too (just watch them swing when there is an entity around
who wishes to communicate!).
No touristy "ghost stories", fictitious
tales of urban legends, and no doom-buggies. This is the real
thing. I'll never forget the experience. Thumbs up to the International
Society for Paranormal Research. If you are thinking about going
to New Orleans, do it. I highly recommend it.

From the moment my feet touched
pavement in front of the vacant building I could sense paranormal
activity going on inside…the energy appeared to seep from the
very pores of the structure. My stomach did a familiar flip-flop
as my highly sensitive energy field tuned in to this entity.
I would not be disappointed this night.
It was close to nine p.m. by the
time our group of thirteen was picked up at Jax Brewery in New
Orleans and bussed to an undisclosed location. Was the "thirteen"
an omen of things to come? I certainly hoped so! Cari Roy, an
Investigator with ISPR, greeted us on the steps of the building
while Ken Braden observed quietly from a distance. We were given
questionnaires to fill out but already my senses were picking
up activity inside the house making it difficult to concentrate
on the forms.
My eyes bore through the closed
door behind Cari and beyond into the darkness of the interior.
The spirits had anticipated our arrival and were eager to communicate.
I could feel their restlessness.
Contact with the Spirit World
was both familiar and comfortable to me. My work as a Medium
in Canada provided plenty of opportunity to communicate with
the other side, and my own visits to local cemeteries and haunts
had turned up some interesting results. But this ISPR Ghost
Expedition would be different - a hands-on field investigation
lead by a Researcher from the International Society for Paranormal
Research and a chance to compare notes with a team!
Cari explained that the house
was devoid of hydro and plumbing thus creating an ideal investigation
site free of electrical interference. The site was known to
be actively haunted and as team participants in a field investigation,
we were asked to record our findings. Armed with flashlights
we broke into groups, each equipped with instruments - heat
sensor, energy meter, and L-Rods. I have to confess that my
initial concern that the Ghost Expedition might be too structured
to allow any kind of spontaneous communication with spirits
was totally unfounded. There were no expectations other than
to record our findings and no limits to define what we might
accomplish. The results of our research would be unique to each
team.
Our group of four was directed
to the back of the house at ground level where we would begin
our investigation. There, we circled the room stopping in different
areas to take notes and readings as our field instruments responded
accordingly with fluctuating temperatures and energy levels.
While I realize the vital role technical instruments play in
paranormal research, I felt encumbered without my hands free
to conduct the energy in the room. Eventually, the flashlight
found its way into my sweater pocket carefully balanced to provide
needed light. As we left the bathroom area and entered a central
room my stomach began to flutter again. The energy was stronger
here…I sensed that we would make contact soon.
An old shovel propped against
a wall with part of its handle missing seemed to beckon to me.
As I drew closer my right foot and leg suddenly went ice-cold.
"I think we have something here," I called to the rest of the
team. Their readings confirmed a considerable drop in temperature
in this area and a definite increase in energy activity according
to the meter. It seems we had met up with our first contact
- a male energy!
He leaned against the shovel…a
tall, thin man missing a front tooth. I felt no sense of violence
attached to the shovel and voiced this aloud…someone asked for
verification…had the shovel been used as a weapon? The answer
came back, "no". As I described our contact and communicated
aloud his message, the L-Rods held by one of our team began
to criss-cross back and forth, forming an "X." Cari, who happened
upon the scene, confirmed that our spirit was indicating his
agreement with what was being said.
Other spirits made contact…a large
man with dark, unruly hair and bushy beard who disagreed with
the man with the shovel when he claimed to "rightfully own the
house"…and the man with the shovel also told me there had once
been a barn on the property. But there were other rooms to explore
and more exciting things to come as it turned out, so with some
reluctance I left the two men to settle their dispute and moved
on.
As we approached the stairs leading
to the second floor, I voiced my concern that there was a lot
of negative energy attached to this area. We were each feeling
it and this negative energy seemed to magnify as we climbed
the stairs and stood at the top of the landing. We took several
readings in this area and each time the heat sensor and meter
reached the highest points we had seen that night. (Later, I
would be guided back to this area by a young female energy that
would give a dramatic performance.)
In a small area at the back of
the house (which may have been a closet at one time), a young
female made contact. She told me she had been confined in this
area against her will and urged me to "find the room with the
fireplace where her bedroom had once been." When I located the
fireplace she said, "The house looks different now…there used
to be another way downstairs." (I searched for an additional
access thinking there might be a second set of stairs but did
not find them). She stayed with me as I walked through the rooms
then drew me back to the stairs where she became agitated.
She urged me to put my hand on
the banister and when I did, she put her hand on the banister
exactly where mine was resting. (I conveyed what I was seeing
and sensing to the others in the group while this was happening).
The woman was showing great fear when very abruptly, she almost
threw herself at the landing and then rushed down the stairs
as though her life depended on it. At this point a team member
who happened to be standing at the top of the stairs suddenly
burst into unexplainable tears as the female spirit rushed past
her. It seems that she experienced transference of feelings
from the young woman because her tears stopped as suddenly and
unexplainably as they had begun.
All too soon our investigation
was over and we were back outside the building listening to
Cari give us some of the dark history attached to the premises.
It was exciting to hear some of the information we had gathered
confirmed by historical facts and/or supported by others in
previous investigations. Yes, there had been a barn on the property
many years ago…someone else had picked up on the "confinement"
too, and another had described a woman "rushing" down the stairs.
The experience was exhilarating and left me itching for more.
Perhaps another trip to New Orleans for a sleepover at one of
the haunted sites!
I leave it to the restless souls
who haunt the establishments of New Orleans - if they wish my
presence at one of their slumber parties then I shall be a willing
guest. And they assure me it will be worth every penny!

I had a hair-raising experience
on the ISPR Ghost Expedition - literally.
In one of the rooms I was holding
the L-Rods when every hair on my body stood on end, including
the hair on my head. At the same time, something pulled down
my socks. The socks were new, so I know the elastic was still
good!

I was recently in New Orleans
and had the pleasure of meeting Cari and going on the Ghost
Expedition. I have to admit it was one of the most exciting
experiences I have had.
It was wonderful because it was
more scientific than dramatic. It is something I would love
to have the chance to do again.

"From the data collected by the Ghost
Expedition Participants, there's no doubt that the Entities
are willing, able and most often, looking forward to communicating".
Daena Smoller
ISPR Investigator

Facing the camera, L to R:
Cari Roy, Daena Smoller and Ken Braden.
"For first few Ghost Expeditions conducted in New Orleans,
we used employees from Gray Line, New Orleans Steamboat and
Hotard as our guinea pigs so to speak. Although those GEs were
active, the activity really kicked up when Ghost Expeditions
opened up to the general public".
Ken Braden
ISPR Ghost Expedition
Trainer/Researcher

"The staircase in this house is a major
attraction which goes beyond the appeal of the original wallpaper
- ISPR Ghost Expedition participants seem to find that so many
high energy events have taken place on the staircase and on
the landing above".
Cari Roy
ISPR Investigator

"One of the awesome things about working
as an investigator for the ISPR, is the opportunity to be inside
properties in a state that no one else will ever see. During
my first visit inside this GE site, I could tell the place was
active and just intuitively knew that the activity would increase
dramatically during the course of ISPR Ghost Expeditions. And
now that several months worth of GE data has been collected
and sent in for analysis, I can say that those intuitive feelings
were 100% on the money".
Daena Smoller
ISPR Investigator

"We have more than one Ghost Expedition
site which adds to the research. The activity between this GE
site and the others are very different. There are areas of this
house inside that you can't walk into because the floor's not
safe, so we've roped those areas off. But it's not the condition
of the property that freaks GE participants out".
Ken Braden

"Ghost Expedition participants don't
seem to mind that there is absolutely no power in the Ghost
Expedition sites. As I make my rounds between the Ghost Expedition
teams, I help out by throwing a little extra lantern light their
way. The big challenge comes into play when every once in a
while, a GE participant doesn't follow the pre-GE instructions
of using a restroom before leaving for the GE site - as there
are no working facilities inside these properties - but we've
always found a solution."

ISPR Parapsychologist Dr. Larry Montz
always enjoys some time with the fantastic police officers from
the New Orleans Police Department and the Sheriff's Department
that work detail for the Ghost Expeditions. Ghost Expeditions
extends a huge thank-you to Officer Bobby and Officer Chris,
who pull detail for the majority of the Ghost Expeditions and
always go out of the way to make sure that everyone is safe
and secure.

"I took this shot in complete darkness
and when I saw the result, I was amazed how even in dark, Cari
Roy and Ken Braden are able to pull off their best "X-Files"
stance".
